Reflection
#5 (Re: Ch.8)
In this reading I was hit in the
teeth realizing that I will have to utilized computers and other such
technology in the classroom. More and more I am experiencing that the students
I work with are encouraged to use computers. Many resources are provided
through the internet such as; typing proficiency, resume building, job
training, and other career and educational skill building.
I have been resistant to the change, however,
the military is a huge proponent of the use of technology. At least 4 times a
year soldiers have to go through different online training. Some of these
training classes are mandatory, while others are voluntary. We have to take
accident avoidance courses to not only operate military vehicles, but also
civilian vehicles. I tend to believe these courses are to cover the military’s
rear-end, so when a soldier finds themselves in a situation such as a car
accident the military can say that they gave him/her a class regarding driver’s
safety. Mandatory online classes include; anti-terrorism, travel, suicide
prevention, and equal opportunity. The volunteer classes are aimed toward
advancement in rank.
In jobs that I have had in the past
required that the employees utilize online courses to become more familiar with
products and different procedures in and around the business.
I have witnessed the effectiveness
online classes with family and friends that have earned different degrees
online. People are able to submit assignments through the internet, read
curriculum, and take exams while in another state, traveling from place to
place or on their way to work while riding the public transportation system.
Convenience is the big benefit that
I see with technology. The only real I have with it, is that I will have to go
through more training. It never ends. Learning is forever. (Sandlot reference)
